What are some of the common struggles you see your students having with Adho Muka Svanasana?

compromising length in back (not bending knees a bit and lifting tail) to get their heelas to the mat

I'm seeing a lot of falling into wrists and shoulders.

What I notice in almost every pose is certain students trying to push themselves too far, (yes, lack of bending the knees just to get the heels down, shoulder blades spread far apart and over arching the spine) After warm up I like to cue a long held yet gentle Adho Muka Svanasana where I talk them through the process. I cue Hasta bandha, bent knees and sit bones to the ceiling. I found when it comes to shoulder blades there's lots of confusion in the process of how to do this. I will cue blades squeezing together but what I found has helped immensely was to cue an external rotation of the under arm (arm pit) When I cued this way it was like an aha moment as I saw everyone within their own flexibility move their shoulder blades to protect their spine. It was really cool!
